Make a homemade nuclear reactor

So, you want to make plutonium, huh? Well, before you can do that, you have to make a nuclear reactor. Check out this informative video on how to make a nuclear reactor using materials that you have at home, like thorium from camping lanterns, lithium from a battery, a tin can with cooking oil, aluminum foil, and a blowtorch. With all of this stuff, you can fuel a nuclear reactor. In a reactor, thorium can change into uranium or plutonium, which are used in nuclear bombs. This makeshift reactor is just one step closer to making a nuclear explosion. Just be careful of that radiation.

Get real. Your average block of concrete will peg a geiger counter. Take 1 block concrete, smash, put in box, measure with geiger counter. Look ma, I just created me a nuKear ractor.

What the video doesn't tell you is that the americium-241 is an alpha and gamma radiation emitter. Gamma is really what is making the geiger detector sing loudly. Easy to do, just set the detector on X100 and point at a gamma source. Also, since each smoke detector contains 1-5 microcuries of americium-241 and that 1 microcurie distributed can cause over 70 lung cancers, I'd melt out a hundred.
